CARNET Welcomes Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) as a New Partner
Our new partner, FGC, is an entity attached to the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat of Catalonia that is dedicated to the provision of urban and regional rail transport services (including 4 metro lines in Barcelona) and to the management of mountain resorts and tourist sites. The company was founded in 1978, but it can track its roots back to the 19th century, when railway technology revolutionized transport in Catalonia and elsewhere around the world. Today, FGC is actively supporting innovative and sustainable mobility solutions, in line with its strategic agenda, as well as CARNET’s.
Being also an infrastructure provider, FGC has been able to set up unique facilities, such as a rail training centre in an uncomissioned line (including one station and 800 m of tunnel infrastructure) or the first 5G lab inside a railway.
FGC operates a 100% accessible network with excellent efficiency and punctuality. It offers shared and electric mobility to everyone and contributes to a cleaner and more sustainable mobility. On top of this, FGC is recognized by its customer orientation and commitment to social responsibility. Without any doubt, FGC is an example of a railway that is eager to evolve and collaborate with other mobility actors for a better urban mobility.
Today’s mobility challenges will only be tackled through a holistic approach that takes advantage of each mode of transport’s strengths and promotes intermodality. FGC and CARNET share a common view for sustainable urban growth and will work together to research and develop technology that shapes the mobility of the future.
