MultiMO is a strategic project that creates a collaborative, multisectoral data space to improve mobility, accessibility, and service planning in rural and underserved areas of Spain. It addresses challenges such as rural depopulation, limited transport options, and unequal access to essential services, focusing on “Forced Mobility” — non-optional, recurring travel for work, education, or healthcare — as a key indicator of spatial inequality. By integrating transport, socioeconomic, geographic, and environmental data, MultiMO supports public and private actors in optimizing services and reducing territorial gaps. The initiative is built on UPCxels, a secure and modular data platform developed by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), featuring tools for data governance, AI-driven analysis, and a service marketplace. MultiMO contributes to a more inclusive and data-driven approach to rural development and mobility innovation.
