Over 60 People Attended the Women in Urban Mobility Annual Summit

A few days ago, on the 15th of November, one of the most important events in Urban Mobility took place in Barcelona: The Women in Urban Mobility project Annual Summit. This event, organised by CARNET and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), was the icing on the cake of the project. It gathered together the whole network of women (and men) that belong to the ecosystem of urban mobility, which seeks to create synergies between UM professionals and inspire through keynotes women in the sector to further develop their careers within the field.

The event was very well received and was attended by about 60 people, who had the opportunity to meet each other, establish contacts and strengthen friendship ties and networks. The venue was Pati Llimona civic centre located in the Gotic Quarter of Ciutat Vella, one of the most emblematic neighbourhoods of Barcelona.

Angelica Caicedo Mafla, Mobility projects researcher at CARNET opened the event. Starting with a small presentation of the project, she highlighted the objectives accomplished during these two years 2021 and 2022. The main description of WUM’s second year online training program was developed by Susanne Traugott and Doris Schönbeck from Uternehmer TUM and Greta Stefanova from JABulgaria, the other two partners of the WUM project. They focused the program review on the following topics: Innovation methods, Entrepreneurship & Intrapreneurship, Leadership & Collaboration.

This presentation was followed by the graduation ceremony where two awards were presented:

1. Outstanding Female Newcomers in Mobility Award: Patricia Okello, Founder l Beyond Assets.

2. Recognition award to Leading Female Innovator: Julia Kinigadner, Researcher in Sustainable Urban Mobility.

Following the graduation ceremony, both winners had a moment to thank the awards and then Julia Kinigarden did her keynote speech “Making Munich a European pioneer & reference region for sustainable and transformative mobility innovations – personal insights and learnings along the journey”

Last but not least, Dr. Margarita Martinez, Civil Engineering – Lecturer at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya & Gastdozentin at the Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal, closed the event and led the audience to the farewell and networking cocktail.

Due to this successful initiative, the Women in Urban Mobility project will continue the next year 2023 in order to keep supporting women in the mobility field.
