MobiNexus Kicks-off to Strengthen Knowledge Exchange Urban Mobility Across Europe

The European-funded project MobiNexus has officially launched with its kick-off meeting hosted at Coventry University. Over the next two years, six project partners from five European countries will work together to accelerate the triple revolution in urban mobility: electrification, autonomous vehicles, and digitalisation.

Funded under the European Innovation Ecosystems (EIE) framework of the Horizon Europe programme, MobiNexus is designed to build inclusive, interconnected, and innovation-driven mobility ecosystems across Europe. By connecting transport research institutions, start-ups, investors, and public authorities, the project seeks to foster transformative change in sustainable urban transport.

Driving the Triple Revolution in Urban Mobility

Urban mobility is undergoing rapid change. MobiNexus addresses three major trends: shared mobility, electrification, and autonomous vehicles. These innovations not only reduce emissions and congestion but also create opportunities for new business models, digital services, and cross-sector collaboration.

Building on the outcomes of the successful European project INNO-MOB and its established platform, the Mobility Innovation Network (MIN), Mobinexus will deploy tools to support this transformation:

        • New features integrated into the existing MIN platform, including AI-based Matchmaking
        • Three Digital Innovation Hubs, aligned with the triple revolution pillars
        • A Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) to ensure lasting impact beyond the project’s duration

CARNET Leads Knowledge Transfer

CARNET (CARNET – Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) will have a significant role in the MobiNexus project by leading a work package focused on knowledge flows in urban mobility innovation. This work package aims to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange across various regions and sectors involved in the project. Key activities under WP5 include:

        • Establishing a cross-border collaboration network
        • Organising three immersive virtual workshops on key themes: Shared Mobility (ICMF), Electrification (CARNET), and Autonomous Vehicles (CUS)
        • Presenting 10 case studies (5 industry-led, 5 academia-led) to promote collaborative learning
        • Developing a centralised online knowledge repository to document and share insights
        • Creating a replication guide to support the adoption of successful innovation models across Europe

A Strong and Diverse Partnership

MobiNexus brings together a skilled consortium committed to driving innovation in urban mobility. Coventry University Services (CUS, UK) coordinates the project, focusing on innovation ecosystems and autonomous mobility. Inovacioni centar Mašinskog fakulteta u Beogradu (ICMF, Serbia) leads the technical development of the Mobility Innovation Network platform, while CARNET – Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain) guides knowledge transfer and mobility foresight through Work Package 5. STEP RI Znanstveno-Tehnološki Park Sveučilišta u Rijeci (Croatia) contributes expertise in entrepreneurial growth and training, and IASP (Spain) supports dissemination, replication, and global innovation networking. MobyX (Cyprus) brings its know-how in digital transformation and smart mobility platforms. Together, this diverse partnership combines research, industry, and innovation expertise to shape the future of urban mobility in Europe.

Towards a Greener, Smarter Europe

By enabling the flow of knowledge, skills, and technology between research institutions, mobility start-ups, and industry, MobiNexus contributes directly to Europe’s green and digital transition. The project emphasizes regional integration, citizen engagement, and scalability, ensuring that innovation benefits both urban centres and less connected regions.
