CIIMA-UP4’s Impact at the Global Mobility Call 2024

CARNET took part in the 3rd edition of the Global Mobility Call, held from November 19 to 21, 2024, at IFEMA in Madrid. This leading sustainable mobility congress provided a platform for CARNET to present CIIMA-UP4 (Centro de Investigación e Innovación en Movilidad Avanzada), a public-private partnership launched back in 2023.

CIIMA-UP4 unites around 600 researchers from the four major polytechnic universities in Spain—Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Universitat Politècnica de València, and Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena—and collaborates closely with private institutions and CARNET. The initiative focuses on addressing advanced mobility challenges through innovative research and the development of R&D projects.

During the year 2024, CIIMA-UP4 developed a total of six impactful activities, which include three studies on open ticketing, fare integration, and a roadmap towards an open payment model; two technical sessions on open ticketing; and a technical analysis on mobility and security.

During the event, professors from these universities hosted the session “CIIMA-UP4: Un marco de colaboración I+D+i entre las UP4,” where they highlighted these achievements and discussed the initiative’s broader contributions. The session also featured the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Sustainable Mobility of Spain, adding a critical institutional perspective to the discussion and reinforcing the importance of public-private collaboration in addressing advanced mobility challenges.

The occasion was also used to present the project METROPOLIS, which aims to develop cooperative applications to make the movement of passengers and goods in urban areas more efficient, more sustainable, safer, and more equitable. Madrid and Barcelona are the two cities chosen to carry out two pilot studies to improve mobility. The studies aim to improve both passenger and freight transport involving the collaboration of universities and private companies.

With the presence at Booth 3F31 and the participation in the presentation, CARNET and CIIMA-UP4 showcased their efforts to bridge the gap between academia, industry, and institutions, in the advancement of sustainable mobility solutions towards the needs of society.
