CARNET Leads the Evaluation of Impact of MOBILITIES for EU
CARNET has reinforced its commitment to urban mobility innovation through its role in MOBILITIES for EU. The project focuses on sustainable mobility solutions in European cities, with Madrid (Spain) and Dresden (Germany) leading 11 pilot projects covering 27 solutions. Additionally, five Replication Cities—Ioannina (Greece), Trenčín (Slovakia), Espoo (Finland), Gdańsk (Poland), and Sarajevo (Bosnia & Herzegovina)—are participating through their Urban Mobility Laboratories.
CARNET plays a key role in MOBILITIES for EU by leading the project strategy for evaluating and monitoring the impact of new mobility measures from both the city and technical partner’s perspectives. Furthermore, CARNET supports Volkswagen Group Innovation, one of its founding partners, in a pilot focused on testing and deploying autonomous robots for charging electric vehicles in Dresden’s Ostragehege area.

Recently, CARNET led a meeting in Dresden to assess the progress of the pilots and review actions for improving connected and sustainable mobility. Volkswagen welcomed participants at Die Gläserne Manufaktur (The Transparent Factory), where discussions centred on developing a collaborative approach to data evaluation, key performance indicators, and the broader impact of the innovative technical solutions being implemented in Dresden.
The different pilots complement each other to create a fully connected and efficient mobility network. By integrating autonomous vehicles, a smart mobility control centre, data spaces, and 5G connectivity, the project builds a complete and scalable solution in which partners and pilots work together to shape an innovative and sustainable urban mobility framework. With some of the best technical partners on board, Dresden is the ideal location to bring these ideas to life. This collaboration ensures that mobility solutions for both passengers and freight are developed with a balanced approach, where technology goes hand in hand with sustainability, energy efficiency, and safety.
The workshop took place at Die Gläserne Manufaktur, Volkswagen’s facility dedicated to e-mobility and innovation. As a production site for electric vehicles, it serves as a hub for mobility research and development, offering test drives and fostering collaboration on future transportation solutions. The facility also acts as a platform for discussions on the evolving landscape of electric mobility, providing insights into new automotive production technologies and human-robot collaboration. By hosting the event at this location, CARNET and its partners had the opportunity to explore mobility solutions in an environment dedicated to innovation and sustainability.
CARNET remains committed to advancing urban mobility solutions through research and collaboration. As a key partner in MOBILITIES for EU, it plays a crucial role in evaluating mobility innovations and ensuring their alignment with project objectives.
