CARNET collaborates in the European Best Engineering Competition Challenge at the 10th Edition of WEC

One of the main aims of CARNET is to identify and support talent, and to attract talented individuals and the knowledge required for the future of mobility. Accordingly, CARNET has collaborated in setting up the Case Study in the local phase of the European BEST Engineering Competition (EBEC), held on 25–26 November at the Barcelona East School of Engineering (EEBE). EBEC is the biggest university engineering contest in Europe organized for students, with the participation of 95 technological universities in 33 countries. The EBEC contest opened the 10th Edition of the Week of Engineering Competition (WEC), a meeting point between companies and students from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).

The industry is currently facing huge challenges as modern business shifts from analog to digital. A new era of business has begun, and the paradigm involves the automotive industry and its need to adapt to changing models of business and mobility. This challenge became the subject of the Case Study (Development of a business idea based on autonomous driving technology to be deployed in 2030 in Barcelona), and has pushed participants into thinking about a new way of conceiving mobility. The semi-final was on 25 November and involved 76 students (19 teams of 4 students each). The final was on 26 November, when the best 6 teams competed for the final award.

The participants worked in teams on the Case Study designed by CARNET, using their analytic abilities and social and communicative techniques with the goal of solving problems that engineers would have to address during their professional activity. A final presentation of the solution was given to convince the jury that it was the most advantageous. This edition’s winning team were Roger Lapeyra and Guillem Sánchez from ETSEIB, together with Ariadna Puig from ESEIAAT, and Artur Romero from EETAC.
