Advancing Occupational Mobility in Rural Areas Through Data Driven Collaboration
Yesterday took place the workshop of the MultiMO project, integrated into the UPCxels platform and focused on improving occupational mobility in rural environments. The session brought together its six collaborating entities: Parque Tecnológico de Paterna, bonÀrea, Parc Agrobiotech de Lleida, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – Campus Manresa, Universitat and the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena.
Understanding Mobility Needs in Rural Work Environments
Rural territories face persistent challenges in ensuring accessible, efficient and sustainable mobility for workers and local communities. MultiMO addresses this by analysing real mobility patterns and integrating them into a shared data environment that supports evidence‑based decision‑making.
During the workshop, the MultiMO team presented the main findings derived from the mobility survey conducted across the participating organisations. These results included:
-
-
-
- Modal split analyses and commuting patterns
- Emissions calculators to quantify environmental impact
- Interactive GIS maps combining transport supply and socioeconomic data
- Identification of priority challenges and mobility barriers
- Assessment of willingness to shift mobility habits
-
-
A preliminary study of potential demand‑responsive bus routes developed using modelling tools was also presented by Nemi.
Collaborative Strategies for Improving Corporate Mobility
The participating entities shared their strategic lines of action to strengthen their Corporate Mobility Plans. These proposals reflect a shared commitment to improving daily mobility conditions and include:
-
-
-
- Car‑sharing initiatives
- Reserved parking for high‑occupancy vehicles
- Incentives for secure bicycle parking
- Gamification strategies to promote cycling
- Improvements in public transport accessibility and service frequency
-
-
These measures aim to enhance accessibility, reduce environmental impact and support more sustainable commuting practices.
Consolidating Insights as the Project Reaches Its Final Stage
As MultiMO enters its final month, the workshop served as a key moment to consolidate results, compare approaches and gather lessons learned directly from the participating entities. This feedback is essential to refine the solutions developed, ensure their alignment with real operational needs and strengthen the project’s capacity to support more sustainable occupational mobility.
The session also reaffirmed the role of the UPCxels platform as a robust data infrastructure enabling secure collaboration, interoperability and informed decision‑making across organisations.
