The Course “New Trends in Urban Mobility” Will Kick Off in September
New Trends on Urban Mobility (NewUM), a project co-funded by the EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union, will kick off its lectures on 15 September 2022 with a welcome keynote by Carlos Romaní (former Director of International and Regulatory Affairs at SEAT S.A.). This course, which helps us advance towards mobility 4.0, will aim to provide new knowledge and effective skills to those professionals working mainly in automotive-related companies and prepare them for tomorrow’s needs.
The course is structured in 5 modules of 2 ECTS each: Module 1 – Changes in Automotive Business: from Automotive to Mobility; Module 2 – ICT Technologies in Urban Mobility; Module 3 – Fundamentals of the Future Urban Mobility; Module 4 – New Types of Collaboration in the Mobility Sector: Urban Mobility Cases; Module 5 – Innovation and Start-up Ecosystem in Urban Mobility. The course offers an experience with international teachers and lecturers from universities, research centers, industries, cities and start-ups whom are experts in mobility tech, business and regulation.
The relevance of this course answers to mobility being a critical component of economic stability and progress in Europe. In addition to direct employment at vehicle makers and component suppliers, it has a strong multiplier effect by connecting various sectors and business services together along the value chain. Professionals’ capacity to keep up with the increasing rate of technological development is dependent on their ability to adapt swiftly. Integrated transportation services and disruptive technologies are enabling an increasing variety of smart solutions, boosting competitiveness and removing the need for limits.
In order to prepare professionals to face all the challenges that arise due to the introduction of these new technologies in the sector, new educational materials are being developed to help them position themselves and improve their future careers. New Trends on Urban Mobility (NewUM) aims to teach professionals the mobility transformation key components, with the intent to raise challenges awareness and help professionals succeed in the adaptation to this changing market, uplifting EU competition and ultimately providing citizens the benefits of tech progress.
The consortium, led by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC), is composed of partners from the academic and industrial field: CARNET, UPC School, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Tecnalia.
