Shaping the Future of Urban Transport

The concept of digital twins is revolutionizing various industries by creating precise digital replicas of physical entities, enabling better analysis, monitoring, and optimization. In the field of smart mobility, digital twins are proving to be a game-changer. This innovative technology is being harnessed to enhance urban transportation systems, making them more efficient, sustainable, and responsive to real-time demands.

Training and Expansion of DigiTwin4Mobility

The first edition of the DigiTwin4Mobility initiative, supported by EIT Urban Mobility, has successfully trained over 23 professionals in the automotive and mobility sectors, of which over 20% were employees of the public administrations. This specialized programme is designed to provide experts with the required knowledge and skills to apply digital twins technology to urban mobility challenges. Through the programme, participants have learned to create and use these virtual models to optimize urban transportation systems.

CARNET, in collaboration with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), AIMSUN, and the UPC School, remains committed to advancing expertise in digital twin technology. This consortium is dedicated to providing top-tier education and coaching, ensuring that professionals in the sector are well-prepared to leverage digital twins for urban mobility applications.

Building on the success of the inaugural programme, the second edition of the DigiTwin4Mobility course would be scheduled to begin in November 2024, if enrolled participants are sufficient for the correct development of the course. Interested individuals can find more information and register for the course through UPC School’s official website. This second course will delve deeper into the practical applications of digital twins, offering hands-on training and expert guidance.

Future Prospects and Global Outreach

Recognizing the transformative potential of digital twin technology, the DigiTwin4Mobility consortium plans to expand the programme internationally in 2025. This ambitious scaling will extend the reach of the course to professionals across different countries, fostering a global network of experts equipped with advanced knowledge in smart mobility solutions. This international expansion aims to amplify the impact of digital twins, driving innovation and efficiency in urban transportation systems worldwide.

Digital twins represent a key advancement in the quest for smarter urban mobility solutions. Through initiatives like DigiTwin4Mobility, professionals in the automotive and mobility sectors are being empowered to harness this technology to its full potential. As the programme expands globally, the collaborative efforts of the UPC, CERTH, AIMSUN, UPC School, and CARNET will continue to boost innovation, shaping the future of urban transportation.
