Project Description
MOBILITIES for EU is a Horizon Europe innovation project and part of the European Commission’s Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission, which is dedicated to pioneering solutions for sustainable urban mobility across Europe. The project aims to show that innovative approaches to passenger and freight transport, developed with strong user participation, can be cost-effective and scalable. These innovations are essential to helping cities progress toward climate neutrality, accelerating efforts to reduce emissions by 2030. Madrid (Spain) and Dresden (Germany) serve as Lead Cities, implementing 11 pilot projects that include 27 cutting-edge mobility solutions. In Madrid, pilots are located in Mercamadrid, the country’s largest wholesale market. In Dresden, activities are focused on the Ostra area, a central hub for sports, events, and transport.
Solutions range from electric and automated vehicles to smart data systems and digital technologies such as AI, 5G, and digital twins. Both cities will build on existing community engagement efforts, which are central to the concept of Urban Transport Labs (UT-Labs). In addition, five Replication Cities—Ioannina (Greece), Trenčín (Slovakia), Espoo (Finland), Gdańsk (Poland), and Sarajevo (Bosnia & Herzegovina)—will establish their own UT-Labs. This will allow them to actively participate, learn from the lead cities, and eventually design and implement their own tailored mobility solutions. Together, these cities are shaping the future of urban mobility in Europe—working toward a cleaner, more inclusive, and digitally connected future.
