The success of e-commerce involves an exponential increase in transportation needs In this context, it is estimated that the last-mile distribution causes 20% of traffic and 40% of transportation emissions in cities. The use of traditional delivery methods such as internal combustion engine delivery vans is not aligned with the objectives of superblocks. As a consequence, innovative delivery schemes are needed.
BotNet will design, develop, and evaluate a parcel distribution model in urban superblocks through a network of autonomous electric vehicles. A pilot test for autonomous deliveries will be performed in a Barcelona superblock and the acceptance of this technology will be evaluated, through surveys and interviews with citizens, to improve the software interface and increase user satisfaction.
