SEAT, S.A., Martorell. SEAT, S.A. is a Spanish automobile manufacturer with its head office in Martorell, Spain. It was founded on 9 May 1950 by the Instituto Nacional de Industria (INI), a state-owned industrial holding company. It is currently a fully owned subsidiary of the German Volkswagen Group, as a member of the now-defunct Audi Brand Group, together with Audi and Lamborghini. It is marketed as a car maker with a youthful, sporty profile. Within Volkswagen and under the Audi Brand, SEAT has been developed as a group with subsidiary companies (the SEAT Group). ‘SEAT, S.A.’ is the parent company.
The headquarters of SEAT, S.A. are located at SEAT’s industrial complex in Martorell near Barcelona, Spain. In 2000, annual production peaked at over 500,000 units. By 2006, over 16 million cars had been produced by SEAT, including over 6 million at the Martorell plant. Three-quarters of the annual production is exported to over seventy countries worldwide..
