Meet the 10 Selected Startups That Will Partake in the Urban Air Mobility Plazza Accelerator Programme

  • The 10 urban air mobility startups with the best potential to improve mobility in European cities were chosen for the European accelerator programme
  • The accelerator kick-off took place in early July in Toulouse and will end with demo days in December. The project is co-funded by EIT Urban Mobility and will be led by Toulouse Metropole, with the collaboration of CARNET, Aerospace Valley, and Ferrovial

Many applications were received from all around Europe and associated countries. The top ten most promising startups in the field of Urban Air Mobility were selected to participate in the UAM Plazza Accelerator programme after a two-phase selection process that included startup pitches in front of a panel of juries. The startups were judged on the innovativeness, the potential, and the Sustainable Development Goals impact of their solution. As well as their relationship with stakeholder and pitch performance. The accelerator is funded by the EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union. Over the next months, the participants will receive mentoring and coaching, expert workshops, access to local ecosystems and markets, in addition to the possibility to test their solutions in living labs throughout cities of Europe.

Last week, the accelerator formally launched with a full face-to-face week of coaching activities with the startups in Toulouse. The courses were planned to provide assistance to the startups in improving their pitches and developing their business plan. Also, they gained a preliminary understanding of the UAM ecosystem and associated business model. A productive week that ended up with the visit of two captivating test centers: ENAC Drone Flying Arena and Francazal Airport.

From now on, expert coaches will work with selected startups to design their business plan, product development strategy, investment needs, and go-to-market strategy. With the overall aim to innovate in urban mobility, integrating a third dimension with air mobility solutions in order to decongest and decontaminate the cities. Thus, facilitating the transport of citizens and goods and promoting sustainable, safe, and convenient mobility.
