CARNET to Organise Citython NEB Vitoria-Gasteiz 2022, a Hackathon With a Focus On New European Bauhaus Challenges
From 30 September to 2 October 2022 the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz will host the first New European Bauhaus (NEB) Citython 2022, a global competition where students, innovators and enthusiasts from different fields are invited to participate in close teamwork to develop creative solutions, innovative ideas and contribute to a sustainable future of the city. Citython aims to bring together multidisciplinary teams of students and professionals of different backgrounds to develop solutions that address the challenges in urban mobility faced by cities.
This hackathon, organised within the Citython frame, will take place for three days, from 30 September to 2 October 2022 in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain). It will open its doors to anyone interested in contributing to improving the city. IT enthusiasts and analysts who enjoy working with “open data”, urban planners, architects, geographers, sociologists, transport planners, software engineers and anyone else interested in the Citython theme are invited to participate.
Organised by CARNET in collaboration with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC) and the Municipality of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the event is funded by the EIT Climate-KIC, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) of the European Union. The hackathon, developed initially by CARNET, brings together cities, universities, research centres, commercial partners and companies to work on urban mobility innovations and make our cities much more enjoyable and comfortable for their citizens.
This Citython edition will focus on the New European Bauhaus values of re-connecting with nature, re-ganing a sense of community and belonging, and prioritising the places and people that need it the most. The Municipality of Vitoria-Gasteiz has developed three challenges linked to the NEB values and specific to the city, reflecting the current issues faced nowadays.
Programme and key mobility challenges
Citython NEB Vitoria-Gasteiz 2022 is a hackathon in which the participating teams work on their ideas from the beginning to a presentable project or prototype, over a period of three days. During the weekend, the teams will be accompanied by experienced mentors and experts from various fields, ready to help and advise in the development of innovative solutions. Citython Vitoria-Gasteiz 2022 offers networking and new sources of information from experts in different areas.
As part of the Citython competitions, students and experts working together in multidisciplinary teams will analyse challenges faced by our cities and develop possible solutions to the following issues:
- Mobility – Improve security against bicycle theft through data, digital and IT solutions.
- Citizen Engagement – Design a citizen engagement user experience that enables the process of energy rehabilitation of housing by neighbourhoods.
- Green Infrastructure – Identify, prioritise and select pedestrian routes, and then design green infrastructures to improve them.
The intention is to support the development of innovative NEB projects and start-ups that have the potential to be marketed. In this way, the Citython is directly focused on supporting the business and innovation ecosystem in the Vitoria-Gasteiz region, as well as throughout Spain and Europe. Citython’s ambition is to create a reference event in Europe that can attract the best talents, including students as well as company employees, and create the most innovative solutions.
The event will conclude with 5-minute presentations of the created solutions and evaluation by a jury, which will select 3 winning teams. A total of EUR 4,500 in prizes will be awarded, EUR 1,500 to each challenge winner.
