CARNET Becomes a Member of UITP to Work Towards Improved Public Transportation
On May 2022, CARNET became an official member of UITP, the International Association of Public Transport. For CARNET, joining this association opens the door to a wider international public transport ecosystem.
UITP (Union Internationale des Transports Publics), established in 1885, is a global entity that brings together public transport stakeholders from all sustainable transport modes. With over 1,900 members, UITP is active in more than 100 countries including a huge amount of transport authorities, public transport operators and research institutions, among others.
For CARNET, the membership represents the opportunity to network and spread its activities internationally within this public transport environment. Additionally, CARNET’s expertise in a wide range of areas, including Mobility as a Service, mobility data digitalisation, micromobility and multimodal integration, among others, will strengthen the strategies to boost public transport globally.
Moreover, CARNET’s strong presence in the local and national mobility sector, with deep ties to important industry players like FGC o TUSGSAL, make it an excellent ally to boost innovation within the public transport sector. In addition, CARNET is looking forward to contributing towards UITP’s Global Public Transport Summit 2023, to be held in Barcelona, which is where the hub is located.
Now, after the harm that COVID-19 has done to the public transport sector, it is especially important to build back better transport options, which are safe and more accessible to all. On this regard, we envisage that CARNET will be working very closely with UITP and its members to empower public transport through top-notch innovation and collaboration that links the academia and the industry sector.
